Paul loved music. This story starts at school, it’s 1970 and walking down the halls is a young man clutching a handful of LPs. Making sure he displayed exactly the right record covers as he did. Perhaps rotating albums to the front throughout the day, now and then swapping LPs with a friend. Paul would share this story with you after a few drinks, while listening to music together —it was his way of telling you that music was something he really cared about.
Paul’s love of music connected and influenced our family in countless ways. As children Madeleine and Lawrence were always fed music to check out, gifted walkmans, CD Players and Hi-f’s. The energy Paul put into music and the family was consistent, respectful of each of our tastes and always fun. He knew Caroline’s music taste instinctively and would pick out albums and artists that fitted them both perfectly.
Choosing what to listen to can be a difficult task. Selecting for someone else is even harder. It requires an open set of ears – exactly the qualities Paul had, whatever the subject.
Listen and share music. Send someone you know that album, tell them about the gig they must not miss. Take a moment to enjoy your music journey, speakers up, lights down and toast to Paul.
